Oh, Happy Day!
I had planned to follow up my last blog on corporate life with yet another blog on a different aspect of corporate life.
That is, however, until oh, the happiest of days happened. A day that lifted us all out of our collective misery over all that is wrong in this world right now. For one shining moment we could set aside all of that angst and rejoice.
For Travis Kelce proposed to Taylor Swift. He did it in style. Some beautiful, romantic, lush garden. An amazing ring, the like of which none of us has seen and that Taylor is going to need to do some weightlifting to have the strength to wear it for more than a minute.
Now let me state for the record, I am not even a Taylor Swift fan per se. I am more of a Beyoncé girl myself. If asked, I can only name one Taylor song off the top of my head and that would be Shake It Off. Not even sure if that is the actual title of the song, but the part I know and can sing along to is, “haters gonna hate hate hate, so shake it off”. That’s it. That is the extent of my Taylor Swift catalog.
And yet, I like her. Maybe it’s because she’s from Pennsylvania. Maybe it’s because I remember seeing her perform the national anthem at a 76ers game when she was like 12 and being impressed. Maybe it’s because she is unapologetically who she is, making excuses to no one, being her true and authentic self regardless of whatever expectations others may put on her. She speaks the truth and is not afraid to take a stand for what she believes is right.
Maybe it’s because, after how many failed relationships (all turned into hit song after hit song, so a bit of an upside there), she has finally found true love?
I mean, who doesn’t love their meet cute? Travis sees her in concert. He is immediately smitten. He tries to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number (that he even knows what a friendship bracelet and that it is a thing? I sure didn’t!). He doesn’t succeed. But he mentions it on his podcast. Next thing you know, she finds out about it, and well, the rest is history.
And that brings us to this engagement. And that ring.
My sister posted the following on FB:
Sister: What I need to know is if there is room on Taylor’s ring finger for a wedding band because the engagement ring almost reaches her knuckle.
This generated the following conversation between us:
Me: Good question! I am thinking it may have to have a cut out in it.
Sister: Maybe like a ring guard? But still not enough room below the knuckle.
Me: Hmm, I think you are right. Ok. How about this? She moves the engagement ring to the right hand to make room for a wedding band on the left! Now, let’s move on to what we think her wedding dress will be like!
All this fun contemplating what her wedding band and wedding dress will be like totally takes one’s mind off the latest current events. Troops in the streets? Illegal gerrymandering? CDC imploding and can’t get your Covid vaccine? We can return to the regularly programmed schedule of the fall of democracy tomorrow, but today, we get a respite.
So, no pressure Trav and Tay Tay. It’s not like the entire world is looking to you for a little escapism. We really are happy for you and want like heck to see your relationship last a joyous lifetime.
And, if you can give us a little teaser on your Wedding Day mood board, well, we certainly welcome continued diversion!
